Poacher Competition

The biennial Lincolnshire Poacher Competition organised by Lincolnshire County Foods is one of the premier regional food events for butchers and bakers in Britain. It promotes individual entrants as well as emphasising the status of our county as the country’s most important food-producing area.

The last competition was held on Thursday 13 October 2016; the next will be October 2018 - exact date tba.  

If you are a Lincolnshire butcher or baker of plum bread and wish to enter your products, you are invited to enter.

It will be held on at the Epic Centre on the Lincolnshire Showground, and will a contest to find the best of Lincolnshire’s famous speciality products. This showcasing of the finest Lincolnshire produce always attracts much public and media attention, ensuring the widest possible audience for the products and specialist skills of our counties’ speciality food producers.

Poacher Competition 2010 - Lincolnshire Stuffed Chine Class

Gold, Silver or Bronze Awards can be won in one or more classes, based solely on the quality of the item, as assessed by teams of expert and consumer judges. A Champion is also selected from each class. Certificates accompany each Award, and the Champion products are awarded a further certificate and a trophy designed to be exhibited in the producer’s premises. Existing customers have their good taste confirmed while new ones can be confident of the excellence of the produce on offer!

Points are allocated on the basis of Awards achieved in each class – no extra points are gained by taking an individual Championship – and the title of Champion Lincolnshire Butcher will be awarded to the entrant gaining the most points overall. If more than one entry is forward in any class then only the highest score will count. All Classes EXCEPT Lincolnshire Plumbread are eligible in the Champion Lincolnshire Butcher Competition. The Trophy for Champion Butcher will undoubtedly be proudly displayed in the winner’s shop until the next Poacher Competition in two years’ time.

A Table ready for Judging from the 2010 Competition

A Presentation Ceremony will take place after the competition. The Champions will be able to display their winning products in a dedicated refrigerated display unit at the nationally renowned Food and Drink Fair held at the Epic Centre from Friday evening during late November. This will provide the exhibitors with a valuable opportunity to showcase their goods to a wider, and very discerning, clientele.
